- First search your exact business name on Google Maps on a phone; if it appears, you have a ranking problem, not a listing problem
- An unverified or suspended profile is the most common reason for being missing; both are fixed from the Business Profile, not the website
- Service-area businesses (cleaning, AC repair, movers) should hide their address and list areas instead; virtual offices are not eligible
- Google says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence, and there is no way to pay for a better local ranking
- Never create a second profile to get around a problem; Google says duplicates cause display problems and appeals must use the original
A customer in Al Nahda searches for your service, sees three competitors on the map, and never sees you. For many Sharjah, Ajman and Dubai businesses the reason is not the website at all. It is the Google Business Profile: it is unverified, suspended, pinned in the wrong building, filed under the wrong category, or simply outranked. This guide shows you how to find out which one applies to you in about ten minutes, and what to do about each, using Google's own published rules.

The short answer
- Check whether you are missing or just low. Search your exact business name on Google Maps. If your profile appears, the problem is ranking, not the listing.
- Not appearing at all usually means the profile is unverified, suspended or a duplicate. These are fixed inside Google Business Profile.
- Appearing in the wrong place means the pin, address or service area needs correcting.
- Appearing only for your name means the categories, details, reviews and website signals are weaker than nearby competitors.
Step 1: Find out which problem you have
Do these three searches on your phone, signed out of your own Google account if you can, because a profile can look normal to the account that manages it while the public cannot see it.
| Search on Google Maps | What you see | What it usually means | Go to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your exact business name | Nothing, or only an old or someone else's listing | Unverified, suspended, removed or duplicate profile | Steps 2 and 3 |
| Your exact business name | Your profile, but the pin is in the wrong building or area | Address or pin error, or a service-area setup problem | Step 4 |
| Your service plus "Sharjah" (for example "ac repair Sharjah") | Competitors only, you are not in the list | Category, relevance or prominence gap | Steps 5 and 6 |
| Your service while standing near your office | You appear nearby but not further away | Normal distance effect; work on prominence and area pages | Step 6 |
Step 2: Is the profile verified?
Open business.google.com with the Google account that manages the profile. If it asks you to verify, that is your first job. Google's help page "Verify your business on Google" lists phone or text, email, live video call and postcard as methods, and says the methods are chosen automatically by Google and cannot be changed. It also says reviews can take up to 5 business days, and that mailed codes usually arrive within 14 days and expire after 30 days.
Practical points for UAE businesses:
- Video verification is often the fastest when offered. Prepare to show your signage, the street or building, your trade licence and the tools of your trade in one continuous recording.
- Use the same business name and address as your trade licence and signage. A mismatch is a common reason a verification is rejected.
- Find out who owns the profile. If a previous agency or employee set it up, ask them to add you as an owner. Your business should own the profile, with any agency added as a manager.
Step 3: Is it suspended, disabled or a duplicate?
A suspended profile disappears from Maps for the public even though you can still see it. Google's help page "Fix suspended or disabled profiles" says profiles that do not follow the guidelines can be suspended or disabled, that removed profiles are hidden from the public, and that you can appeal through the appeals tool with evidence such as a business registration, licence or utility bill whose name and address match the profile.
The page also says two things that save a lot of wasted time:
- An appeal can only be submitted once, so fix the cause first and attach your evidence (in the UAE, usually the trade licence and a tenancy contract or Ejari, or a utility bill) before you submit.
- Do not create a new profile for the same business. Google's guidelines say each business should have one profile, and that multiple profiles can cause display problems on Maps and Search.
The usual causes we see in suspended profiles are a business name stuffed with keywords ("Best AC Repair Sharjah Cheap 24 Hours"), an address at a virtual office or a P.O. box, or two profiles for one business.
Step 4: Is the address, pin or service area right?
Google's guidelines say the address must be a precise, real location, that P.O. boxes and remote mailboxes are not acceptable, and that virtual offices are not eligible. A co-working office only qualifies if it has clear signage, receives customers during business hours and is staffed by your business.
Two situations are very common in Sharjah, Ajman and Dubai:
You visit customers (cleaning, AC repair, pest control, movers, home services)
You are a service-area business. Google's service-area help page says that if you do not serve customers at your address, you should remove the address from your profile and list the areas you serve instead. You can add up to 20 service areas, by city or area, not as a radius, and Google asks you to keep the whole area within about two hours' drive of your base. A Sharjah business serving Sharjah, Ajman and Dubai fits comfortably inside that.
Customers visit you (shops, clinics, salons, workshops, showrooms)
Keep the address visible and check the pin. In large buildings, industrial areas and new developments the pin often lands on the wrong side of the block or in the next plot. Open your profile, choose to edit the location and drag the pin to your actual entrance. Google says approved edits can take up to 48 hours to appear. Permanent signage with your business name at that address also matters, because the guidelines expect it.
| Your business | Show the address? | Set service areas? | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Office or shop customers visit | Yes | Optional (hybrid) | Pin on the wrong building; no signage |
| Team that travels to customers, no walk-ins | No, hide it | Yes, up to 20 areas | Listing a home or flat address publicly |
| Virtual office or shared desk without staff | Not eligible | Not eligible | Suspension if listed |
| Several real branches with their own staff | Yes, one profile each | Optional | Using the same phone number and name variations inconsistently |
Step 5: Do your categories and details match what people search?
If you appear for your name but never for your service, start with the primary category. Google's guidelines ask you to choose the fewest categories that describe the core business, as specifically as possible, and to describe what the business is, not every service it offers. A Sharjah AC company listed only as "Contractor" competes badly with one listed as "Air conditioning repair service".
Then complete the rest of the profile. Google's page "Tips to improve your local ranking on Google" recommends verifying the business, keeping the address, hours, special hours, category and attributes up to date, responding to reviews, and adding photos and videos. Specifically:
- Add your services, in the words customers use, with a short description each.
- Set regular and holiday hours, including Ramadan and Eid hours when they change.
- Add a WhatsApp-ready mobile number that is the same as on your website and trade licence where possible.
- Link the profile to the most relevant page on your website, for example your service page for that emirate, rather than always the homepage.
- Add real photos of your team, vehicles, shop front and work. Stock images do not help customers decide.
Step 6: Are competitors simply stronger?
Google says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence. Prominence is how well known a business is, and Google gives links from other websites and the number of reviews and positive ratings as examples. The same page states there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking.
You cannot change distance, so the work is relevance and prominence:
- Reviews, earned steadily. Ask every satisfied customer, by WhatsApp, with your direct review link. Reply to every review. Never buy reviews or ask staff to post them; fake reviews break Google's Maps content policies and can put the profile at risk.
- A website page for each emirate you genuinely serve, with that area's details, your prices or price-from and real work. Google uses your website to understand what you do and where. Thin pages that only swap the city name do not help.
- Consistent name, address and phone on your website, social profiles and directories, matching the profile exactly.
- Mentions and links from real local sources: suppliers, trade associations, chambers of commerce and local media.
This is the slow part. Verification and pin fixes can show within days; review and prominence work is measured over months.
A worked example (hypothetical)
A pest control company in Sharjah Industrial Area 6 works only at customers' homes. Its profile showed the warehouse address, was categorised as "Cleaning service", and its name on Google included "Best Pest Control Sharjah Dubai". It appeared for its name only.
A sensible fix list, in order: change the name to the trade-licence name, set the primary category to "Pest control service", hide the warehouse address and add service areas for the Sharjah, Ajman and Dubai districts it really covers, link the profile to its Sharjah service page, and start a review request after every job. The first three changes are a single afternoon's work. The ranking change, if it comes, follows over the next weeks and months as reviews and website signals build. This is an illustration, not a client result.
A 10-point checklist
- Searched my exact name on Google Maps on a phone, signed out.
- The profile is verified and my business account is an owner.
- There is only one profile for this business (no old duplicates).
- The name matches the trade licence and signage, with no extra keywords.
- The address is a real, staffed location, or hidden with service areas set.
- The pin is on my real entrance.
- The primary category describes what the business is, as specifically as possible.
- Hours, services, photos and the website link are complete and current.
- Name, phone and address match my website exactly.
- I have a routine for asking every happy customer for a review and replying to all reviews.

Common questions, answered
Why does my business show for me but not for my customers?
The account that manages a profile can often still see it when it is unverified, suspended or not yet published to the public. Check on another phone or in a signed-out browser before deciding everything is fine.
How long does it take to appear on Google Maps after verification?
Google says verification reviews can take up to 5 business days and approved edits up to 48 hours to show. Appearing for your name usually follows soon after; ranking for your service against competitors takes longer.
Can I list my business on Google Maps without a shop or office?
Yes, as a service-area business, if you travel to customers. Hide the address and list up to 20 service areas. A virtual office or P.O. box is not eligible.
Should I create a new profile if mine is suspended?
No. Google's help says not to create a new profile for the same business. Fix the cause, gather documents whose name and address match, and submit one appeal through the appeals tool.
Can I add "Sharjah" or my main service to my business name?
Only if it is part of your real name on your licence and signage. Google's guidelines say not to add marketing taglines, locations or extra details, and doing so can lead to suspension.
Can I have separate profiles for Sharjah, Ajman and Dubai?
Only for real branches with their own address and staff. A business that serves all three from one base should have one profile with service areas covering them.
